Mississippi Votes Hosts Youth Civic Engagement in Action Advocacy Day at State Capitol

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi Votes today convened young leaders from across the state for its annual Youth Civic Engagement in Action Advocacy Day, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to engage in the legislative process and advocate for issues impacting their communities.

The event, held Tuesday at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church in Jackson, brought together more than 100 youth and community advocates for a program centered on civic education, state government, and effective policy advocacy. Participants engaged in structured discussions designed to build civic knowledge and sharpen their ability to effectively communicate with elected officials and policymakers.

Following the program, participants gathered on the south steps of the Mississippi State Capitol to demonstrate the collective power of youth civic participation and elevate the issues that matter most to young Mississippians.

“What we saw today is exactly why this work matters. Young people from across Mississippi came together not just to learn about their government, but to show up and demand their place in it. That kind of civic power is what drives real, lasting change in our communities,” said Lily Moens, Policy & Research Director for MS Votes.

Advocacy Day reflects Mississippi Votes’ broader mission to ensure young people across the state are informed, engaged, and equipped to make their voices heard. Through programs like this, Mississippi Votes continues its ongoing commitment to empowering the next generation with the knowledge, confidence, and access needed to fully participate in the democratic process.
