JACKSON, Miss. — Tuesday, Mississippi showed up. Throughout this election cycle, organizers and community leaders worked tirelessly on the ground to make sure every Mississippian had the information, resources, and support needed to participate in the democratic process. Election Day was the culmination of that work, and it mattered.

“Tuesday’s primary election was an important step in setting the stage for Mississippi’s November midterm elections. While most voters were able to cast their ballots without issue, our teams did encounter a few administrative problems that highlight the need for continued improvements in voter information and election processes. We’re looking ahead to November and remain committed to making sure every voter has the resources they need to participate”, said Sara Cavicchi, Voting Rights Coordinator for MS Votes.

MS Votes also heard from voters who ran into barriers on Election Day like receiving the wrong ballot at a polling location, or having trouble using the state’s online polling place lookup tool because of address errors in the system. Whether or not all of these issues were fully resolved, they serve as a constant reminder that there’s always room to improve. With stronger poll worker training, improved voter registration systems and active involvement from local election commissioners in all elections, every eligible voter in the state can have a smooth experience at the poll.

MS Votes remains committed to that mission long after the polls have closed. We will continue partnering with organizations and leaders across the state to expand voter education, remove barriers to the ballot, and ensure that every Mississippian in every county, every zip code, every community has a seat at the table and a voice in the process.
